O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.
98Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.
99I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.
100I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.
101I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.
102I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.
103How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
105Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalms 119 is the longest chapter within the Bible and it is a song about God’s Word. There are eight different word types the Psalmist uses to describe God’s Word, statutes, precepts, commands, the word, testimonies, the law, judgments, and decrees. Every chorus begins with the letter of the Hebrew alphabet ascribed to each passage and encompasses 22 letters with 8 choruses to each letter. Truthfully, it is an intricate psalm with a myriad of contextual clues to the passage. With all of that being said, it gives us a contemporary reality of how we are called to live out our lives, by and through God’s Word. God’s Word is the blueprint for our lives. It gives us the precepts to truly understand how to live the abundant life Jesus died and paid for us to receive. When we study God’s Word, it brings insight and illumination into our lives to help us live a life of faith and joy. Without God’s Word, we find ourselves walking in confusion, frustration, and misdirection. God is a Master-BUILDER! When we read God’s WORD and we see how HIS plans overlay on our lives, we can SEE INSIGHT into HOW God is building our lives. In fact, many times it is counter-intuitive to our natural understanding, but the more we follow God’s WORD the more INSIGHT we develop in knowing what He is doing in our lives. We are not easily shaken and overwhelmed by life’s situation, “unforeseen” events, and we are equipped to overcome the obstacles we are facing because we no longer see them as stumbling blocks but stepping stones. In fact, God’s WORD gives us three analogies.
- DISCERNMENT- “We will be wiser than our enemies.” God gives you the insight to know how to make wise decision based on and through His Word. Discernment is the ability to know what to do when you arefaced with two decisions that present themselves positively. Discernment is the ability to see through the “problem” and discover the deeper issue and the root of the problem. Discernment gives you principle decision making even in difficult and turbulent time. You discover not only what to do but how to go along doing it.
- DEVELOPMENT- “We will have more insight than our teachers” The Word matures your life, it will cause you to excel, advance, continually progress in character and leadership development. God’s Word is a blueprint for personal and corporate growth. You will grow and produce fruit when you abide in His word.
- DISTINCTION- “we will have more understanding than the ancients”. The Word of God gives you distinction, it will place favor on your life. God’s Word will be the deciding factor on how you move into your DIVINE PURPOSE. God’s favor follows those who follow him.
